Local firefighters and dispatchers receive lifesaving award

SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Friday night, multiple local firefighters and dispatchers received a lifesaving award.

Back on November 20th, a 9-1-1 call came in about a house on fire in Carlisle. A woman on the second floor was trapped and needed to be rescued.

Now, those involved in that rescue operation are being recognized with a lifesaving award.

“I think this was one of the good awards to be able to give out to these recipients for the job that they have done,” said Sullivan City fire chief Rob Robertson.

He says it is important to honor the men and women who protect this community. Among the recipients receiving this award for courage, bravery, and service is Sullivan City firefighter, Mitchell Eberhardt.

“I am very grateful for the award. We definitely risk our lives for others. We really appreciate that someone could do this for us,” said Eberhardt.

He was among nine emergency personnel honored. Roberston says he is forever grateful for his department.

“With my department being involved with that, along with the other departments, it is very rewarding to me that they were able to get this award,” added Robertson.

The state gave out the honors to four Sullivan City firefighters, three Carlisle firefighters, and two dispatchers.
