62-year-old woman shot, killed in Capitol Heights in US for grandson’s funeral

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Police said a 62-year-old woman from El Salvador was shot and killed in Capitol Heights on Tuesday.

Lidia Chinchilla De Carrillo, 62, was shot in the 600 Block of Drum Avenue. The Capitol Heights Police Department responded to the shooting at around 9:10 p.m.

“I lost my son Saturday morning, and I lost her last night. It’s hard because she came to this country only because she wanted to be with her family, and support me,” said her daughter, Paty Carillo.

The family said that a car pulled up next to theirs and fired around five shots at them before driving off. They said they didn’t realize she was shot until they took her inside the house. Two bullets went through the seat of the car, hitting her in the back.

“I pulled her top and she didn’t have anything and [my husband] said check her back… so my uncle did it and see the hole in her back,” said her daughter.

Chinchilla De Carrillo was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Her family told DC News Now that she was visiting from El Salvador for her grandson Moises Martinez’s funeral. He died in an accident on Saturday morning.

Paty said her Moises and his grandmother were very close. He lived in El Salvador with her for years before coming to the U.S.
