Cape Girardeau police designate 2 parking spots for ‘safe exchange zone’

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Selling items on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist often means meeting strangers to exchange the goods. The Cape Girardeau Police Department is making those meetups safer.

Cape Girardeau police are designating two parking spots in their lot for “safe exchange” where they have 24-hour surveillance.

For those not using the safe exchange zone, officials recommend meeting in a well-lit public lot with cameras. Bring another person with you and always let others know where you’re meeting and when.

If you feel unsafe in a situation you’re urged to call 573-335-6621 or 911.
