Cape Girardeau area triathletes compete in Ironman 70.3 in TN

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Have you ever wanted to push yourself to the limits?

Local participants in the Ironman Chattanooga Triathlon on Saturday, May 20 in Tennessee have prepared for the most intense day of their lives.

Rebecca Preston is a triathlete competing in the triathlon.

“I’ve spent the last 19 weeks training really hard, with all these great people behind me,” said Preston.

The Ironman 70.3 in Chattanooga consists of a 1.4-mile swim, epic rollers on the bike through the historic Chickamauga and a run through downtown Chattanooga.

Before the race, FOX23 News Multimediajournalist Sasha Moore caught up with some of the participants to see how they train.

“We had some friends that signed up for the race,” said Preston. “I really enjoy training for triathlons, and I’m ready to take the next step into the distance.”

Teri Jones is now a two-time participant in an Ironman Triathlon. She says setting goals is an important step to staying healthy.

“It’s always important to set goals,” said Jones. “When you’re athletic and active, you always have to have that next goal out there to continue to strive toward meeting another goal.”

But why would a person want to push themselves through this strenuous race?

“It feels amazing,” said Jones. “It feels amazing, and I want to go back and try it again.”

The Chattanooga Ironman 70.3 was Sunday, May 21.
