More charges filed against 2 suspects in Cape Girardeau Hotshots shooting

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - More charges were filed against two suspects in connection with a shooting inside a bar and grill in Cape Girardeau.

According to police, the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed more charges on Wednesday, March 8 against Ranell Robinson and Tyler Banks.

These charges are in addition to the charges already filed.

Robinson, 43, of Cape Girardeau, is now charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, three counts of assault in the second degree and three armed criminal action.

He is currently being held on a $150,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing was rescheduled for May 2.

24-year-old Tyler Banks, of Cape Girardeau, turned himself in to the police department around 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 6. He is now charged with three counts of felony assault second degree and three counts of felony armed criminal action.

He is being held on a $150,000 cash bound and appeared in court on Thursday morning, March 9.

Banks’ preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 2.

A third suspect, Jeremiah Twiggs, 39, of Cape Girardeau, was taken into custody at 3 p.m. on March 5. He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

He is being held on a $100,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 11.

According to Cape Girardeau police, officers were called to Hotshots Bar and Grill on North Main Street at 11:20 p.m. on Saturday, March 4 to a report of multiple people shot inside the restaurant.

Court documents state the shooting started with a fight at the pool tables.

Investigators say surveillance video showed there were many people in the area and it appeared as though there wasn’t a lot of space.

Twiggs is accused of giving a gun to another person alleged to be involved in the shooting.

Robison and Banks are accused of firing shots also.

Police say based on information from the Major Case Squad and their investigation, a total of five victims were identified as being injured during the exchange of gunfire inside the business.

They said bystanders were injured and did not appear to be involved in the dispute leading to the shooting.

According to police, two bystanders are cooperating with law enforcement, but the two others told law enforcement they will not cooperate with the prosecution and charges are not being sought at this time for their injuries.

Investigators believe this was a targeted shooting, and there is no threat to the general public.

According to police, the Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad has disbanded following the three arrests.

The investigation is ongoing and will continue to be handled by the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
