A Minnesota man who hit and killed three sled dogs while testing snowmachines for Polaris late last year near Cantwell has been charged with a misdemeanor, according to court documents.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - On January 20 at approximately 1 p.m. a pickup truck traveling on the Parks Highway, 30 miles south of Cantwell, near milepost 183, entered the opposite lane of the road and struck an oncoming semi truck head-on. Both vehicles caught fire as a result of the collision.

A charge has been filed in a case in which a snowmachine hit a dog team on the Denali Highway. According to an Alaska State Trooper dispatch, 48-year-old Erik Johnson of Minnesota and Polaris Inc. have been charged with reckless driving for a Dec. 11 crash that killed three sled dogs and seriously injured another. Johnson was testing a machine for Polaris on the snow-covered Denali Highway east of Cantwell when he hit a dog team being driven by Mike Parker for Iditarod veteran Jim Lanier.
