The Canton Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 1700 Cherry Ave NE on Monday morning.

At 8:17 a.m., firefighters arrived at the scene to find smoke and flames emanating from a first-floor window. Two occupants, facing imminent danger, had resorted to jumping from a second-floor window to escape the blaze.

Prioritizing the safety of the individuals involved, the firefighters promptly attended to the occupants, providing necessary medical attention. Simultaneously, they initiated efforts to extinguish the fire, which had taken hold within the building. The valiant actions of the responders helped ensure the safety of all parties involved.

In addition to rescuing the occupants, the firefighters also managed to save the lives of two dogs and two cats from the structure. The canines were claimed by their relieved family, while the felines, who required medical assistance, are currently under the care of the Humane Society.

The two occupants, a 26-year-old male and a 22-year-old female, were subsequently transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital for treatment of their non-life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the responding firefighters.

Authorities have listed the value of the affected structure at $69,300, with an estimated loss of $17,325. As of now, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire investigators will work diligently to determine the origin and circumstances surrounding the incident.
