A 17-year-old boy fleeing from an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper crashed his car Monday afternoon against a utility pole at Trump Avenue NE south of Mahoning Road NE in Canton, the patrol said.

The teen was not injured and was arrested after a short foot chase.

The patrol said around 3:58 p.m. a 2006 Buick Lacrosse driven by the teen was spotted going 72 mph in a 35 mph zone on Georgetown Street NE and Trump Avenue NE in Canton Township. The patrol sought to stop the Buick.

But the teen fled north on Trump Avenue with a patrol cruiser in pursuit.

The boy on approaching Mahoning Road NE tried to pass vehicles ahead of him in a no-passing zone. He then swerved left to avoid colliding with a southbound vehicle and crashed into the utility pole. He ran from the scene but was arrested after a short foot pursuit.

The teen was booked into the Faircrest Juvenile Attention Center in Canton Township. He faces charges of fleeing, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana and traffic offenses.

The patrol said a loaded KelTec .22-caliber pistol was found under the driver's seat of the Buick and 170 grams of marijuana was found on the center console.
