Prep roundup: Canby softball suffers shutout loss on the road against Wilsonville

Canby softball fell to Wilsonville 5-0 on the road on Wednesday, April 17. Despite the score, the bout remain closely contested throughout, with the Wildcats scoring three runs in the sixth inning after leading 2-0 for four innings.

Taylor Saucedo led the Cougars with two hits while Summer St John and Mollie Kivett each added one hit. Allison Hayzlett was in the circle for Canby, surrendering five runs (zero earned) on four hits across six innings, striking out nine and walking one.

The No. 10 Cougars (6-8, 2-2 NWOC) will close their two-game road trip and look to bounce back against La Salle Prep (5-8, 2-2 NWOC) on Friday, April 19.

The No. 3 Cougars picked up an easy victory on Wednesday afternoon, steamrolling past Hillsboro 8-2 at home. Canby managed four hits, five RBIs and totaled a whopping 16 walks.

Quinton Esmay led the Cougars with three hits and one RBI while Brady Ackerman added one hit and two RBIs. Esmay earned the win on the mound, allowing one run on four hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out six.

Canby (11-3, 4-1 NWOC) will look to complete the three-game sweep against Hillsboro (3-12, 0-5 NWOC) on Friday, April 19, on the road.

Molalla baseball

Despite jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning, Molalla lost just its second-home game of the year on Wednesday, falling to No. 3 The Dalles 11-4.

Garret Brusseau led Molalla with two hits while Camdyn Morey and Kolton Buys each contributed one hit and two RBIs. Sophomore Kyler Dickerson started the outing on the mound, surrendering six runs (zero earned) on five hits over four innings, striking out five and walking four.

Molalla (8-6, 3-2 TVC) will hit the road and close its two-game series against The Dalles (11-4, 5-0 TVC) on Thursday, April 18.

Meanwhile, in The Dalles, Molalla fell to the Riverhawks 16-0 in four innings on Wednesday. The team heavily struggled at the plate, registering zero hits.

Sophomore Brenna Jackson was in the circle for Molalla, surrendering 16 runs (four earned) on 13 hits over three and one-third innings, striking out zero and walking one.

Molalla (3-11, 0-5 TVC) will close its two-game series against No. 2 The Dalles/Dufur (9-1, 5-0 TVC) on Thursday, April 18, at home.

North Marion baseball

Senior Jayden Ohlman drove in four runs on two hits to lead the No. 4 Huskies to their fourth consecutive victory on Wednesday, breezing past Sweet Home 12-2 in six innings.

North Marion recorded 14 hits overall. Isaac Peirce, Dawson Schrenk and Carter Reilly each inked three hits while Schrenk added four RBIs. Reilly earned the win on the mound, surrendering two runs over six frames, striking out six and walking one.

North Marion (12-2, 5-0 OWC) will look to complete the three-game sweep against Sweet Home (2-12, 0-5 OWC) on Thursday, April 18, on the road.
