Sonora Man Arrested For Vandalism
Sonora, CA – A Sonora man was handcuffed after allegedly trespassing on a woman’s residence and using spray paint to damage property. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Deputies recently responded to a property in the 20000 block of Highway 108 after a caller reported that a male subject had trespassed on her land, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. The caller stated that 69-year-old Fred Denton Killion Jr. was on her property without permission and had caused damage by spray painting her surveillance camera and mailbox.
Tuolumne Utilities District Completes Fuels Reduction Project
Twain Harte, CA– The Tuolumne Utilities District (TUD) has completed the TUD Critical District Fuels Reduction (Phase 2) Project, significantly reducing hazardous fuel loads around the Twain Harte Wastewater Treatment Facility. Funded by a $160,522 grant from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Climate Investments Wildfire Prevention Grant Program, the project treated 22.2 acres using a combination of hand thinning and mastication.
New ordinance gives Grizzly Flats residents a chance to build their own affordable housing after Caldor Fire
In fall 2021, the Caldor Fire scorched 221,800 acres across the Sierra Nevada and incinerated two-thirds of the El Dorado County town of Grizzly Flats. While several efforts to replant conifer trees throughout the Caldor burn scar have continued since 2022, rebuilding almost 500 structures destroyed in Grizzly Flats is more challenging due to high construction costs and restrictive county codes. But a new ordinance gives residents hope of moving out of their camper-trailers and into houses they built themselves.

Arnold, CA — These two plumes of smoke have the public calling in to report a vegetation fire, but don’t be alarmed; it is a prescribed burn near Arnold. As we reported here last week, California State Parks, in cooperation with CAL Fire, is conducting a prescribed burn that began on Tuesday, June 4th. About 70 acres have been treated as of 9 a.m. today, Wednesday, June 5.

Fentanyl And Dangerous Weapon Bust In Calaveras County
Valley Springs, CA – A narcotics K9 sniffed out around 28 grams of the deadly drug fentanyl hidden in a Stockton man’s vehicle. Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputies, conducting a patrol check in the Valley Springs area last Wednesday, May 29, at about 10 p.m., spotted a suspect wanted on two Sacramento County felony warrants at a gas station in the 100 block of Highway 26. Deputies approached the suspect, 37-year-old John Robert Blackwell, and arrested him.

Sonora, CA — The Sonora Police Department recently arrested a man in front of the Sonora Walmart after an investigation into threats he allegedly made against another person. The PD reports that 37-year-old James Koenig Jr. had threatened to shoot someone, stemming from a previous altercation the two had.
Update: Second Fire In Copperopolis Area Of Calaveras County
Update at 4:50 p.m.: Dubbed the Wagon Fire, it is burning in the 5200 block of Chuckwagon Drive near Cantel Road north of Highway 4 in the Copperopolis area of Calaveras County. CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore reports that the forward spread has been stopped at two acres. Crews will remain on scene, working towards full containment and mopping up for several hours. What sparked the blaze is under investigation.
