Camden Man Gets 55 Years in Murder Conviction

CAMDEN – A 21-year-old Camden man, convicted of first-degree murder in the 2021 shooting death of a Philadelphia man, was sentenced to 55 years in New Jersey state prison last Friday, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

Under the state's "No Early Release Act," Antony Shields must serve nearly 47 years of the sentence before being considered for parole. He will be about 68 when he can apply for parole.

Besides the murder conviction, Shields was convicted of first-degree aggravated manslaughter and second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery in connection with Alex Fernandez's death on February 4, 2021.

Investigators had responded to reports of a shooting victim near the 1700 block of South Seventh Street and found Fernandez, 21, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died shortly after at Cooper University Hospital.
