New owners continue tradition at Colonial House Inn
WESTON, Vt. – Longtime Vermont resident John Nunnikhoven passed away on April 1, at age 87, leaving behind a legacy of a true “mom-and-pop” family business. A beloved presence in the community, and known for their friendly hospitality, Nunnikhoven and his wife Betty were the proprietors of the Colonial House Inn and Motel in Weston, Vt., from 1979-2002. They then sold the property to their daughter Kim and her husband Jeff Seymour, who ran the business for more than 20 years. John had been proud to say all three of his children, and two of his kids-in-law, worked at the inn over the years.

Chester Fishing Derby
The Chester Fishing Derby was held Saturday, May 11. It was a chilly morning with overcast skies, limiting the number of anglers. There were 29 kids registered. As in the past, George Wilson from the Chester Rod & Gun Club registered the kids and awarded prizes. This year, George was joined by Kent Armstrong, vice president of the club. Danny and I got the skinny on the rod and gun club’s progress on the damage from last July’s flood. Things are looking better.

PROCTORSVILLE, Vt. – Grafton Village Cheese invites the public to help celebrate the grand opening of their new Okemo Valley retail store over the Memorial Day Weekend. A ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Okemo Valley Chamber of Commerce will kick off the event on Friday, May 24, at 12 p.m. The celebration will continue Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., wrapping up Monday at 12 p.m. Each day will include cheese and gourmet food samples, live entertainment, daily raffles, and kids’ activities.
