A 39-year-old stabbing victim in Cambridge gave police a name just before losing consciousness early Saturday morning.

Cambridge police canvassed the area and an officer on foot found the suspect hiding in a wooded area between Camper Street and the Board of Education building.

The subject was identified as 31-year-old Charles Brandon McCourt of Cambridge. McCourt was arrested and transported to the Cambridge police station for further investigation.

Just before 4 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a call in the 400 block of Camper Street where they found the 39-year-old man lying on the floor bleeding with multiple stab and laceration wounds to his back, arms, thigh and head.

Officers rendered medical aid to the victim until Dorchester County EMS arrived and took over medical care.

While police officers were rendering medical aid to the victim he said he was stabbed by a McCourt. A witness, who claimed he also was attacked, provided a description of the suspect.

The victim was transported to Tidal Health Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury by ambulance where he underwent surgery Saturday. Due to heavy rains at the time, a helicopter could not be used to transport the victim.

Following additional investigation by Cambridge officers and detectives, McCourt was charged and had his initial appearance before a court commissioner and was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond.

According to a police report, McCourt is charged with first degree attempted murder, second degree attempted murder, first degree assault, second degree assault, reckless endangerment and use of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure.
