California law enforcement will be able to continue using K9 officers.

In February, a state assemblyman introduced a bill banning the use of police K9s for arrest and for crowd control.

That lawmaker argues these dogs harken back to a time period when K9 officers were used against people of color.

Law enforcement agencies from around the state oppose the legislation, including the Fresno Police Department who said these K9s keep both officers and the public safe.

Wednesday, that bill failed in the state assembly.
