GULSTAN: LET’S GET RIGHT TO WEATHER. THE TRAFFIC LOOKING GREAT. THE CLOUDS ARE PUFFY, WE HAD SOME THUNDERSTORMS EARLIER TODAY AND PLENTY OF RAIN AND WIND. LISA: SEEING SOME SPOTS WITH THE BLUE SKY, IT HAS BEEN NICER THIS AFTERNOON THAN IT WAS EARLIER TODAY IN THE CAPITAL CITY. GULSTAN: SOUTH TO STOCKTON WHERE WE HAVE CLOUDS AND YOU CAN SEE RAINDROPS THERE ON THE CAMERA LENS. >> INTERESTING AFTERNOON. HAVE BEEN PLACES IN THE VALLEY WHERE WE HAVE SEEN A BLUE SKY. WE NOW HAVE THUNDERSTORMS THAT HAVE BEEN POPPING UP. THERE IS A LINE HERE THAT IS TRYING TO COME UP FROM THE SOUTH INTO THE SOUTHWEST, MOVING IN THIS DIRECTION. YOU’LL NOTICE THESE AREAS OF LIGHTNING, HERE IS TURLOCK, IT ALSO MAY CONTAIN HAIL. THE FUNDERS ARMS HAVE HAD A HISTORY OF REDUCING SMALL HAIL WHEN THEY WERE GOING ACROSS I-5 IN PATTERSON. THIS IS MOVING OFF TO THE EAST NORTHEAST, TOWARDS THE WATERFORD AREA. MODESTO GETTING HEAVY RAIN. WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED IF THERE WAS A SMALL HAIL EMBEDDED IN THAT. YOU WILL NOTICE THE LIGHTNING STRIKES IN HERE, YOU ARE HEARING AT REBELS OF THUNDER AS WELL. FURTHER TO THE NORTH, MODERATE RAIN AND STOCKTON. THIS IS MOVING OFF TO THE NORTHEAST. FOR THOSE OF YOU IN FARMINGTON, YOU ARE ABOUT TO GET SOME OF THIS RAIN. A LITTLE FARTHER TO THE NORTH, WE HAVE HAD GOOD RAIN IN THE AREA AROUND RIO VISTA. LIGHTNING IN THE WALNUT GROVE AREA, MAY BE SMALL HAIL EMBEDDED IN THAT. AS YOU CAN SEE, AND ELK GROVE, AND TOWARD THE POCKET AREA, IT IS DRY, ALL OF THIS IS HEADING YOUR WAY. ELK GROVE, YOU ARE PROBABLY HEARING REBELS OF THUNDER RIGHT NOW. PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN AND SMALL HAIL HEADING YOUR WAY. GETTING MODERATE RAIN BETWEEN DAVIS, DIXON AND VACAVILLE. IN EASTERN SACRAMENT OF COUNTY, MODERATE RAIN IN CITRUS HEIGHTS AND FOLSOM AREA. IN THE SIERRA, ON-AGAIN OFF-AGAIN SNOW. THERE ARE SNOW SHOWERS BUT THE SIERRA IS PRETTY QUIET TODAY. THE VALLEY IS WHERE THE ACTION WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE EARLY EVENING HOURS. WE WILL CONTINUE TO TRACK THE THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH THE EVENING. LISA: RIGHT NOW, ONE LANE ON A FREEWAY IN SOLANO COUNTY IS CLOSED BECAUSE OF A LANDSLIDE. THIS IS ON I-680 IN FAIRFIELD. THE SLIDE SENT WATER AND MUD ONTO THE FREEWAY. CAL-TRANS QUICKLY CLEARED OUT SOME OF THE MUD AND REOPENED ONE OF THE LANES. ONE SOUTHBOUND LANE WILL STAY CLOSED UNTIL ABOUT 8:00 TONIGHT. A FRONTAGE ROAD HAS SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE

Northern California is waking up to a cooler morning under scattered clouds and showers in some areas. Meteorologist Tamara Berg says showers will be on-and-off for the morning commute, with some areas staying dry. Parts of Northern California could have thunderstorms in the afternoon. CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS IN THE VALLEY

Areas that get sun breaks in the afternoon could see some thunderstorms pop up that may produce heavy downpours and hail.

“I just can't stress enough, if you work outside for a living, be on your guard on a day like today, looking for those dark clouds and take shelter if you do hear thunder and you see some lightning,” Berg said.

Showers will linger in parts of Northern California up until around lunchtime and taper off after sunset.

There’s a good chance of thunderstorms developing in the Sacramento area by about 6 p.m.
