UPDATE 3/26 @ 7:30 p.m.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting in Gordon County,.
The Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation.
One man was shot and is in stable condition. No officers were injured during the incident.
Preliminary information indicates that around 3:00 a.m., Gordon County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to stop a motorcycle with no tag on Highway 41.
The driver of the motorcycle did not stop and led deputies on a high-speed chase through Calhoun and crashed at the bank of Newtown Creek on Anthony Drive in Calhoun.
GBI says the motorcycle driver is identified as Christopher Jordan Boyer of Atlanta. Boyer said he had a gun and made threats to shoot and kill the deputies.
Boyer then made movements with his body and hands as if he had a gun in his clothing, attempting to draw a gun.
GBI says two deputies shot Boyer who then jumped into the creek and said he had a gun and would kill the deputies.
Boyer stayed in the creek for almost two hours until deputies with a ballistic shield went into the creek and took him into custody.
Boyer received immediate medical attention and was taken to Floyd Medical Center in Rome.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation of the officer-involved shooting. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Gordon County District Attorney’s Office for review.

A Georgia man wanted for multiple felonies led police on a high speed chase early Sunday morning before crashing and being shot by officers.
That's according to the Gordon County Sherriff's Office.
They say deputy sheriffs attempted to stop a motorcycle on US Highway 41 near Calhoun when the driver suddenly took off.
Police chased the suspect into Newtown before he crashed at Newtown Creek.
The motorcycle driver, later identified as a wanted man out of Carroll County for failure to appear and probation violations, told the deputies that he had a gun and threatened to shoot them.
Police say the man then reached inside his clothes as if drawing a gun, at which point the deputies shot him.
The suspect still refused to surrender and held the officers at bay until around 5 AM.
Police say he finally gave up and was then taken into custody without further incident.
They transported him under guard to a local hospital where he is being treated.
His condition is not currently known.
The Sherriff's Office says no officers were injured.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an investigation into this event at the request of the Sheriff’s Office.
