Woman identified after car overturns in Abbeville Co.

ABBEVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The Abbeville County Coroner’s office said that a woman has been identified after a crash that happened on Monday.

Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said that a 2002 Toyota SUV was driving north on South Carolina Highway 81 near Calhoun Falls around 12:30 p.m.

The driver of the SUV drove off of the right side of the road and then crossed over the center of the roadway.

The driver then crossed back over to the right side of the roadway and overturned hitting trees.

According to the coroner, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Ryleigh Shaw, 23, of Calhoun Falls was identified as the driver. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner said that Shaw was speeding while on her cell phone at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Abbeville County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
