  • An agreement has been finalized between Calhoun County Animal Control and McWhorter and Co., Inc. to enhance facilities for animals in need. The agreement includes the installation of fencing in an area specifically designated for animal exercise, providing a safe and secure environment for their physical well-being. Additionally, McWhorter and Co., Inc. has generously committed to donating funds for the construction of a covered area, facilitating interactions between potential pet adopters and the animals awaiting loving homes. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to animal welfare and community support, ensuring that animals in Calhoun County receive the care and attention they deserve while awaiting adoption.
• Public Comments
  • Audry Maxwell, representing the Chamber of Commerce, unveiled upcoming events in Calhoun County. She highlighted the Noble Street Festival , slated for Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in downtown Anniston, alongside the exhilarating Sunny King Criterium bike races that are poised to attract cyclists from across the nation. Additionally, Maxwell spotlighted an historical walk through downtown Oxford, scheduled for the same day from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., offering attendees a fascinating glimpse into the city’s rich heritage. Furthermore, she announced the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Hess Grocery Store at the Back Country Horsemen Trails in McClellan, set to take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, offering convenience and amenities to the local community.
  • Jakob Williamson, the public affairs director at the Chamber of Commerce, unveiled that Jacksonville State University President Don Killingsworth and Gadsden State Community College President Kathy Murphy will jointly present a State of Higher Education forum. Scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, at the Ayers Campus of GSCC, this event promises to offer valuable insights into the current landscape of higher education.
