Local student who threatened school questioned

KYMA

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Calexico Unified School District and the Calexico Police Department are keeping a close eye on two schools after a student posted a threat on social media.

The school district received information on its anonymous tip line of a 13-year-old student who allegedly posted a picture and a video showing a gun on Instagram Friday evening.

In the video, the student stated that, “harm might come to staff and students at Enrique Camarena Jr. High School on June 9."

The Calexico Police Department and the FBI were able to find and speak to the student.

They also searched his parents' home.

No weapons were found inside.

Police said the teen offered a motive for what he posted on social media.

"He mentioned the fact that he just put it out there because of some bullying that occurred three years ago and checking his history on the juvenile, he has no history, no criminal history," said Sgt. Victor Legaspi from the Calexico Police Department.

So far the teen is not facing any criminal charges.

Meanwhile, police said they're also looking into a reported sighting of someone with a rifle in a vehicle near Calexico High School.

They will have extra officers on hand for the high school graduation happening on Friday.
