Fire breaks out in Fallas Paredes, first responders on scene

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Calexico Police and Fire Department, as well as the Imperial County Fire Department, are responding to a fire that broke out at Fallas Paredes.

The fire started at around 5:50pm.

Fortunately, the building is vacant, but authorities are asking the public to avoid Second Street and Paulin Ave.

Calexico fire department says they had to call holtville fire department ,el centro fire department and imperial county fire due to the large size of the building and weather conditions

An employee of a cell phone store better known as metro pc says he saw the thicc smoke coming out the building.

“We went outside and we saw fire going on we saw some smoke… we smelled it and we were like what the hell something is burning… we went to the back and we didn’t see nothing and we were like what the hell is going on," said Leobardo Casarez.

The fire is 100 precent contented and the building was damaged from inside. The building has been vacant for two years. Calexico fire says it’s under investigation.
