    Warriors baseball finds success in 4-game gauntlet

    The Caledonia Area baseball squad went four for four in a busy week that included more than a few tough teams to overcome.

    Scores for the week included a 14-10 shootout at Rochester Lourdes, a 3-2 win at home against PEM, a 5-2 win at Wabasha-Kellogg, and a 2-1 win against a tough Randolph team.

    Against Lourdes

    On Monday, Garret Konz earned the win in the dogfight against Lourdes, allowing nine hits and seven runs over four innings.

    Rochester Lourdes obtained a 7-2 lead off of five runs in the bottom of the fourth.

    Facing that five-run deficit, the Warriors came back in the top of the fifth, scoring nine runs off eight hits to take an 11-7 lead. Lourdes could not regain the lead, and the Warriors held on, winning 14-10.

    Top batters included Hunter Goetzinger and Will Allen, who both went 3-4 each.

    Against PEM

    Tuesday saw a close battle between the Warriors and the Bulldogs at Plainsview-Elgin-Millville.

    Landon O’Heron took the mound and gave a strong showing, giving up nine hits and two runs over six innings, striking out eight batters and only walking one.

    Drew Yahnke proved to be the clutch asset, batting in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh with a single, and also throwing a scoreless seventh inning to secure the victory for the Warriors by a score of 3-2.

    Top batters for Caledonia included Garret Konz, who went 2-3, and Will Allen, at 1-3.

    Against Wabasha-Kellogg

    The Warriors traveled to Wabasha-Kellogg on Thursday, April 25.

    Will Allen started, only allowing three hits and one run over 5⅔ innings. He also struck out five and walked five in the contest.

    The Falcons and the Warriors battled until the sixth inning at a score of 1-1. The Warriors then rattled off four runs in the sixth, including one off of a fielder's choice, and two off of an error. Owen Denstad scored one run off a sac fly as well.

    The Warriors went on to hold the lead and win by a score of 5-2.

    Top hitters included Drew Yahnke with two RBIs, as well as Owen Denstad and Ben Stemper batting in one each.

    Against Randolph

    Rounding out the week, the Warriors faced off against the Randolph Rockets on Thursday, April 27 at home.

    Drew Yahnke took to the mound, going six innings and only giving up one earned run while striking out seven. The Rockets got on the board in the first inning with a run off of a single, and the Warriors tied it up off an error in the third, but they would battle in a tie for the rest of the game until the eighth.

    Reid Klug drove in the game-winning run off of a single, giving the Warriors the win in dramatic fashion. Konz, Denstad, Klug, Allen and O’Heron all had hits for the Warriors in the game.

    Next up

    Next up for Caledonia is a rematch against Rochester Lourdes on Tuesday, April 30.
