The Warriors boys basketball team finished out the season strong with two blowout wins against the La Crescent-Hokah Lancers 98-64 and against the Winona Cotter Ramblers 74-49.

The Warriors faced off against the Lancers on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Caledonia. With the loss at La Crescent earlier in the season, the Warriors looked to even the score at home.

At the start of the game, Ethan Stendel (No.14) won the tip-off and Mason King (No. 5) immediately hit a big three. Reid Klug (No. 12) would follow up with another three, but the Lancers would respond in kind. Another three from Reid Klug at 15:20 and a huge block by Ethan Stendel would set off the home crowd.

The Lancers would not be deterred, and would even battle back to take the lead 16-19 at 11:30 in the game. Mason King would strike back and even up the score immediately with another three, and Lewis Doyle (No. 2) would flip the switch near the 7 minute mark and hit a big three with a follow up driving layup in quick succession. With the Warriors pulling away with five minutes left in the half, Doyle, Klug and King would rattle off threes late in the half to give the Warriors a big lead as time expired on the first half: 51-35.

The second half saw the Warriors start off with six unanswered points, continuing the momentum they had from the first half. Garret Konz (No. 10) would also get into the deep threat category with a three at 15:30, and continue that pace throughout the half. 71-41 was the score at 12:30 as the Warriors were playing well both offensively and defensively.

The Warriors could not be resisted as the score climbed to 90-57 with 7 minutes left, and the reserves were sent in around three minutes and thirty seconds.

The score would end 98-64, with sweet revenge after their previous loss. Top scorers for this game included Lewis Doyle with 26 points, Mason King and Reid Klug with 18 points, and Garret Konz with 17 points.

Against the Ramblers

The second showdown against the Ramblers saw a bit more resistance, but the Warriors would lead 32-22 at the half, and eventually win 74-49 at Winona. Top scorers for this game were Reid Klug with 25 points Mason King with 17 points, and Garret Konz and Ethan Stendel with 10 each.

The boys basketball squad will start off Sectionals with a matchup with Chatfield on Thursday, Feb. 29 at home at 7 pm.
