Caledonia/Houston goes 1-1 in triangular

The Caledonia/Houston wrestling team went up against both Goodhue Wildcats and La Cresent-Hokah Lancers in a triangular on Friday, Feb. 9 at Houston High School. The Warriors fell to Goodhue 36-29, but triumphed over La Crescent-Hokah by a score of 70-6.

For the Goodhue dual, starting off at 107, Mason Van Gundy (Cal/Hou) was pinned by Lucas Erickson. Aiden Burns (Cal/Hou) won by major decision 12-2 over Jay Ryan (Goodhue) at 114. Hunter Frank (Cal/Hou) pinned Tim Strauss (Goodhue) at 121. Caledonia/Houston forfeited at the 127 weight class, leading to Braxton Lange (Cal/Hou) winning by decision 9-3 over Hayden Holm (Goodhue) at 133. Isaac Blocker won by forfeit at 139.

Caledonia led 19-12, as Owen Denstad (Cal/Hou) pinned Payton Holst (Goodhue) in the 145 weight class. Tyson Ginther (Cal/Hou) would fall to Nathan Beck (Goodhue) by pin at 152. Will Allen (Cal/Hou) won a major decision over Alexis Escalona (Goodhue) 14-0 at 160, but this was the last victory for the Warriors.

Cooper Allen (Cal/Hou) fell by decision 9-2 to Carsyn O’Reilly (Goodhue) at 172. Grant Reed (Goodhue) won a decision 7-1 against Aden Kulas (Cal/Hou) at 189, Anthony Von Arx (Cal/Hou) was pinned by Caled Kurtti (Goodhue) at 215, and finally Jack Carlson (Goodhue) pinned Logan Kinstler (Cal/Hou) at 285.

The second dual against La Crescent-Hokah saw Caledonia/Houston dominate the Lancers by a score of 70-6, with only one loss for the Warriors during this dual.

The biggest win for the Warriors came when Owen Denstad pinned Adrien Michaels of La Crescent to win his 187th match all time, giving him the all-time wins title from former Caledonia High School wrestler Kasey Meiners, a six-time state qualifier for the Warriors.

The Warriors will next head to Wabasha-Kellog for a triangular between Caledonia/Houston, Fillmore C-Lanesboro-M-C Wolves, and Wabasha-Kellog on Tuesday, Feb. 13. On Thursday, Feb. 15, the wrestling team will embark on first leg of the Varsity Sectional Tournament for teams on Thursday, Feb. 15.
