The Caledonia Area girls squad endured a couple losses against Minnehaha Academy (33-73) and Fillmore Central (53-65), but it bounced back with a convincing win over Jackson County Central, 78-55.

Caledonia was without one of its top scorers in Aubrie Klug for the showdown against Minnehaha Academy on Tuesday, Feb. 6. The gym was packed with students and parents alike, and the energy was great throughout. Minnehaha Academy was ranked highly in the state, so the Warriors girls had a tough task ahead of them.

Caledonia hung in the game for the first 10 minutes of the first half. Scoring came tough. Josie Foster (No. 4) scored on a euro-step layup early on. Four minutes in, and the Warriors only found themselves down one, 6-5, as they also made it hard for the Redhawks to score.

Ball security soon became a problem for the Warriors, as the Redhawks were very aggressive in stripping and stealing the ball. At the 10-minute mark, Minnehaha Academy had begun to build on its lead at 19-8.

Near the seven-minute mark, things began to turn south for the Warriors after a tough exchange between two players on a loose ball. This exchange ended up in a technical foul on Caledonia, and Minnehaha Academy took advantage going up 49-19 at the half.

The second half saw Minnehaha Academy continue to play tough and continue to build on its lead. At 10:00, the score sat at 54-24 in favor of the Redhawks, and they would not give any ground for the rest of the game, winning 73-33. Leading scorers for this game were Josie Foster with 13 points, Sienna Augedahl (No. 12) with five points, and Regan King (No. 13) with four points.

Caledonia vs Fillmore Central

Next up, the Warriors faced the Fillmore Central Falcons at home Thursday, Feb. 8. The Warriors were up at the half by a score of 33-29, but they would ultimately fall to the Falcons by a score of 63-53. Leading scorers for this game were Josie Foster with 28 points, Nicole Banse (No. 15) with 12 points and Regan King with seven points.

Caledonia vs Jackson County

In the last contest of the week, the Warriors played against the Jackson County Central Huskies at Jackson County. This game also continued the theme of tough matchups for the Caledonia girls basketball squad, but the Warriors were up to the challenge.

The contest saw the Huskies on top of the Warriors at the half by a score of 38-34. Caledonia persevered, though, and went on to win the game by a comfortable margin at 78-55. Leading scorers were Josie Foster with 37 points, including seven 3-pointers, Aubrie Klug (No. 3) returning with 17 points, and Nicole Banse with 12 points.

Next up for the Lady Warriors will be Rushford-Peterson at home Tuesday, Feb. 13, another home game against Goodhue on Friday, Feb. 16, and finally an away game against the Cannon Falls Bombers in Cannon Falls on Saturday, Feb. 17.
