The Caledonia Area boys basketball team continued its success with two impressive wins at Fillmore Central by a score of 103-70 and at home over the Onalaska Hilltoppers by a score of 96-94.

Thursday, Feb. 8 saw the Warriors head to Preston to face the Fillmore Central Falcons. The gym was loud and wild, and both teams started off the contest at a good pace.

Caledonia won the tip, and Ethan Stendel (No. 14) put in a quick bucket to start off the scoring. The Falcons and the Warriors would trade blows, with the Falcons going up early by two around the 16th minute. Lewis Doyle (No. 2) brought the ball back down the floor in quick order and scored on a layup, drawing a foul in the process to bring the Warriors back up one on a free throw at 15:25.

A steal and ensuing dunk by Ethan Stendel lit up the Warriors fans in attendance at 14:20. The Falcons were not deterred and again traded blows with the Warriors, and Fillmore Central eventually went up 25-21 in the ninth minute of the half.

The game was also very physical, with lots of fouls on both teams by the midpoint of the half – seven fouls to six for the Warriors and Falcons respectively.

The Warriors continued to battle, and at the seven-minute mark, Lewis Doyle pulled up for a three and found the bottom of the net to give the Warriors the lead. From here, the Warriors pulled away, with Mason King (No. 5) and Ben Stemper (No. 0) adding more threes to add to the lead. The half ended with the Warriors up by a score of 57-40.

The Warriors maintained control of the lead throughout the second half of the game, as Garrett Konz (No. 10) started out the half with a post-up shot to start things off.

The score advanced to 72-50 at the 11:00 mark, and further to 94-65 at the 4:30 mark. The Warriors were up by 30 with three minutes left.

Leo Privet (No. 25) hit a three from the corner at the end of the game to surpass the century mark for the Warriors.

The final score was a comfortable 103-70 in favor of the Warriors. Leading scorers for the game included Mason King with 26 points, and Lewis Doyle and William Hahn both with 14 points.

Caledonia vs Onalaska

The Warriors squared off with the Onalaska Hilltoppers on Saturday, Feb. 10 at home. Onalaska is ranked No. 1 in the Mississippi Valley Conference, so it was a tough matchup for Caledonia.

The Warriors and Hilltoppers were evenly matched with a score of 37-34 Warriors at the half. The Warriors had to fight hard against the Hilltoppers, with the latter feasting from the free throw line, going 22-29 on the day.

Caledonia ultimately pulled out a very tightly contested win at 96-94. Leading scorers included Lewis Doyle with 28 points, and Ethan Stendel and Mason King both with 18 points.

Next up for the Warriors will be a game at home against Rushford-Peterson on Tuesday, Feb. 13, and then a trip to Cannon Falls Saturday, Feb. 17.
