BARRE, Vt. (WCAX) - A Barre man is behind bars after police say he abused the mother of his unborn child. The Vermont State Police say troopers responded to a home in Cabot Tuesday after a woman says George Grant, 38, was having a mental health issue. Police say Grant punched the victim in the stomach three times and poured turpentine on her. He was arrested Wednesday at a nearby cabin.

The shooting took place two weeks ago; the drug bust and the arrests took place on Saturday.

Worcester police in Vermont seized a significant amount of fentanyl and cocaine during a search warrant execution on Elliot Street. The operation involved multiple divisions of the Worcester Police Department and resulted in the arrest of a male suspect on trafficking charges. In a separate incident, a Worcester man was arrested on drug trafficking and assault charges after attempting to flee from police during a routine license plate check. These incidents highlight ongoing efforts to combat narcotics activity and ensure public safety in Worcester.

Two incidents occurred in St. Johnsbury, Vermont this week. In the first incident, a hit-and-run occurred in the parking lot of Comfort Inn & Suites, resulting in significant damage to a black 2012 Chevrolet Camaro. The owner, Justin Hoffman, reported the incident to Vermont State Police, who are now seeking witnesses or information about the fleeing vehicle. In the second incident, a local man named Saladene Stevens was arrested for violating an abuse protection order. Stevens was taken into custody during a traffic stop conducted by law enforcement officials.

This week in Caledonia County, Vermont, several incidents occurred resulting in arrests. These incidents include the arrest of a fugitive from justice in Lyndonville, the arrest of a man on multiple warrants in Eden, the arrest of a woman for DUI and drug possession in Barnet, and the arrest of a man on multiple charges following a traffic stop in Lyndonville.

On November 14, Vermont Superior Court, Washington Unit, issued an arrest warrant for Serina Flood, of Hardwick, for failure to appear. On November 29, at approximately 11:25 a.m., Serina Flood was located at a residence on Mackville Road in Hardwick by Hardwick Police. Flood was released on a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Washington Unit, on November 30, at 12:30 p.m.

CABOT — A Cabot man was taken into custody by Vermont State Police on charges of first degree aggravated domestic assault following an incident on Dec. 5. Authorities said they responded to a domestic altercation at approximately 5:19 p.m. where they learned that George Grant, 38, had allegedly assaulted a family member.

MARSHFIELD — Troopers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on US RT 2 in Marshfield where they found the driver showing signs of impairment. Caleb Kennison, 24, of Plainfield, was taken into custody under suspicion of driving under the influence at around 6:45 p.m. on Dec. 2.

BARRE—David Gilbo of Newbury can avoid prison time after pleading guilty on Nov. 30 to a misdemeanor criminal charge of grossly negligent operation in driving a pickup truck that struck and killed a Ryegate man at P&H Truck Stop.

ST. JOHNSBURY — A single-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 91 South near mile marker 134 on Dec. 9 at 3:19 p.m., according to Vermont State Police. Kendra Noyes, 55, of Lyndonville, was driving her 2019 Jeep Cherokee when she reportedly took her eyes off the road for a moment, leading to the collision with the guard rail.

BARRE, Vt. (WCAX) - A Newbury man accused of killing a gas station worker with his car in 2017 will avoid any jail time under a plea deal Thursday. But while the case over the deadly incident at the P&H Truck Stop in Wells River may have concluded, it did not bring closure to the family of the Ryegate victim.

Two incidents occurred in Lyndon, Vermont this week. The first incident involved a single-vehicle rollover on Lynburke Rd, resulting in a DUI charge for a local man. The driver lost control of the vehicle due to negligent operation. The second incident involved a 39-year-old man who was arrested for driving with a suspended license and violating conditions of his release during a traffic stop near US-5 and Mattocks Park Lane.

The wrongful death lawsuit, recently moved to federal district court, was brought by the estate of Scott Lewis, who died while working as a zip line tour guide at Stowe Mountain Resort, and names four other firms that designed, installed or equipped the resort’s ZipTour ride.
