Tucked away in Jefferson County lies Hastings, Oklahoma, a small town with deep historical roots stretching back to the early 1900s. Once a flourishing farming community, Hastings was originally named Bayard. Its inception coincided with the settlement of the Kiowa, Comanche, and Apache Reservation in 1901. The town's renaming to Hastings was a nod to the Nebraska hometown of some residents and to avoid postal mix-ups with another Baird in Indian Territory.
