(St. Francois County, MO) U.S. Route 67 in St. Francois, Madison, Wayne, and Butler Counties will be reduced to one lane as contractor crews perform pavement striping. This section of roadway is located from the Jefferson County line to U.S. 160 in Butler County. Weather permitting, work will take place Monday, March 27 through Monday, April 10 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. The work zone will be marked with signs during this moving operation. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area. North Outer Road 60 in Butler County will be closed as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway. Helen Brandt
Helen (Sparkman) Brandt, 97, departed this earthly life Sunday, March 19, 2023, in Decatur, Illinois. She was born in western Butler County to Myrtle (Davis) Boxx and Luther Boxx. After attending four different grade schools and two years of high school at Ellsinore, she graduated from Poplar Bluff High school in 1943. Beginning her teaching at age 17, she taught rural schools in Butler County 14 years. By attending college classes during the summer during the summer terms, she received her BSE degree in 1962. After teaching two years at Fox School at Arnold, Missouri and 17 years at Poplar Bluff Junior High School, Helen retired in 1980. (Helen often remarked that teaching was a rewarding vocation – not financially, but watching children learn.)
