Pawtucket man arrested for shooting gun from moving vehicle in Burrillville, pointing it at motorists

BURRILLVILLE – A 33-year-old Pawtucket man was taken into custody by Burrillville police on Friday after reportedly shooting a gun from a moving vehicle and pointing the weapon at occupants of another car driving on the highway.

Col. Stephen Lynch said officers were first dispatched to the area of Victory and Broncos Highway around 8 p.m. on Friday, June 2 for multiple calls reporting gunshots fired on. Moments later, another 911 call reported a male had pulled alongside a motorist and pointed a black handgun at the occupants, at the same time forcing another vehicle off of the roadway, according to Lynch.

Officers reportedly located the suspect vehicle in the area of Broncos Highway. According to police, the vehicle, “failed to stop and began overtaking other vehicles in a reckless manner.”

The vehicle was finally stopped at the intersection of East Avenue and Ailton Carvalho, of Pawtucket, was taken into custody. Carvalho reportedly admitted to being in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun, which was located in the center console.

Police administered initial sobriety tests, which the suspect reportedly failed.

Carvalho was held overnight and was scheduled to appear before a bail commissioner on Saturday afternoon to answer to two counts of felony assault and/or battery, carrying of weapon while under the influence of liquor or drugs, discharging a firearm from motor vehicle, drive by shooting, carryng a pistol or revolver without license or permit, DUI B.A.C unknown 1st offense, reckless driving, and
disorderly conduct. Carvalho is also charged with refusal to submit to a chemical test.
