Man arrested in connection to drive-by shooting in Burrillville

BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WLNE) — Burrillville police Col. Stephen Lynch said that a man was arrested Friday night after allegedly firing a gun from a moving vehicle.

Police responded to the area of Broncos Highway after receiving multiple reports of gunshots.

Ailton Carvalho was taken into custody after allegedly firing a gun out of his car before pulling up alongside another vehicle, pointing the gun at the passengers, and forcing another vehicle off the road, Lynch said.

Carvalho, who is 33 and from Pawtucket, attempted to flee police before being apprehended.

He also failed a field sobriety test, Lynch added.

Carvalho was charged with multiple counts of felony assault and battery, carrying a weapon while under the influence of alcohol, and drive-by shooting, among several other charges.

He is expected to appear before a bail commissioner Saturday afternoon.
