The 2023 Carolina Mountains Literary Festival’s 29 authors of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, memoir, children’s and young adult books will come to Burnsville Sept. 7-9.

Free readings and discussions will take place at venues around the Town Square all day Friday and Saturday. Registration for the low-cost workshops and keynote presentation is now open at cmlitfest.org.

Those planning to attend can get a head start on their reading list in several ways that support local businesses and services.

Plott Hound Books in downtown Burnsville is the best place to start. Plott Hound Books and Malaprop’s Bookstore in Asheville are the official LitFest booksellers.

Patrons can support these shops online at bookshop.org. To support local, choose Plott Hound or Malaprop’s as the local bookstore to support.

Book borrowers can check out the displays at the Yancey County and Spruce Pine Public Libraries, featuring books by authors participating this year and years past.

On Friday and Saturday of the Festival, bring copies to be signed by the authors. Book signings are twice each day in the Town Center at noon and 5 p.m.
