The top returning Vermont high school Ultimate athletes? Here's our 2024 watchlist.

After reaching out to various coaches in Northern Vermont, below is a rundown of many of the state's top returning Ultimate girls and boys athletes for the 2024 season.

The Burlington girls will seek a third straight championship this spring, while Montpelier is the defending champion on the boys side. The Ultimate regular season wraps by June 1, with playoff matchups set to begin June 4 and 5.

GIRLS ULTIMATE ATHLETES TO WATCH

SOPHIA BELLIZIA

School: Mount Mansfield

Class year: Junior

2023 season: Key player for a building Cougars squad.

ABBY BUNTING

School: Champlain Valley

Class year: Junior

2023 season: Defensive star who helped CVU reach the semifinals.

MORIYA GELFENBEIN

School: South Burlington

Class year: Senior

2023 season: The cutter tallied 20 goals and 21 assists, good for second on the team in both categories.

GRACE HALL

School: Montpelier

Class year: Junior

2023 season: The handler recorded 15 goals and 15 assists.

SCOUT HARPER

School: Burlington

Class year: Senior

2023 season: The coaches' all-state selection led the Seahorses in assists (58) as the Burlington captured the second of back-to-back state titles.

AVA JENSEN

School: South Burlington

Class year: Senior

2023 season: The handler had one goal and a team-leading 24 assists for the Wolves.

AMELIA LAPORTE

School: Mount Mansfield

Class year: Junior

2023 season: Key player for a building program.

RUBY MOREHEAD

School: Montpelier

Class year: Junior

2023 season: The cutter tallied five goals and five assists.

RUBY OPTON

School: Champlain Valley

Class year: Senior

2023 season: Opton's handling skills keyed CVU's run to the semifinals.

ROSIE PERKINSON

School: Burlington

Class year: Senior

2023 season: In her first season playing the sport, Perkinson racked up 11 goals for the state champions.

HAVEN STEINER

School: Burlington

Class year: Senior

2023 season: One of team's leading scorers with 16 points for the state championship outfit.

GRACE THOMPSON

School: Champlain Valley

Class year: Senior

2023 season: One of CVU's best all-around players.

FINLEY TORRENS-MARTIN

School: Montpelier

Class year: Senior

2023 season: Amassed six goals and 58 assists, accounting for about 40% of Montpelier's assists, to earn spot on coaches' all-state squad.

2023 season: Had nine goals, two assists and three pass defensed.

QUINN BOYD

School: Burlington

Class year: Senior

2023 season: The dependable handler was leader and good defender for the Seahorses.

GABE GELFENBEIN

2023 season: Racked up nine goals, 13 assists and 28 pass defensed.

FISHER GRIESEL

Class year: Senior

2023 season: The handler tallied three goals, three assists and 10 pass defensed.

FORREST HOLLOWAY

School: Montpelier

Class year: Junior

2023 season: One of Montpelier's primary handlers who was one of team's best conditioned athletes.

OSCAR JACOBSEN

School: Burlington

Class year: Senior

2023 season: A shutdown defender whom coach Michael West said is the "best athlete on any team I've coached."

EVAN KAIGLE

School: Milton

Class year: Senior

2023 season: A standout handler for the Yellowjackets.

JACOB LEPPLE

School: Champlain Valley

Class year: Junior

2023 season: The handler had 13 goals, 35 assists and 28 pass defensed.

CHRISTIAN MITCHELL

School: Milton

Class year: Junior

ROWAN NENNINGER

2023 season: The cutter had 26 goals, four assists and 18 pass defensed.

DJ STEINMAN

School: Champlain Valley

Class year: Senior

2023 season: The cutter totaled 23 goals, 36 assists and 12 pass defensed to make second team for coaches' all-state.

JACK TACY-MUNROE

School: Mount Mansfield

Class year: Senior

2023 season: The handler struck for eight goals, 27 assists and 16 pass defensed.

ELIJAH WOOD

Class year: Sophomore

2023 season: The handler handed out 31 assists.
