Massive 4-alarm fire destroys church in Florence, New Jersey

Firefighters are battling a massive blaze at a church in Burlington County, New Jersey.

The flames broke out around 6 p.m. Monday at the Fountain of Life Center located on the 2000 block of Columbus Road.

Chopper 6 was overhead as heavy flames engulfed the structure.

“Even though this building could not be saved, they’ve done everything they can to save our school building, which is attached through a link to the church,” said Russ Hodgins, the lead pastor.

The fire reached four alarms just before 7:30 p.m.

Robert Tharp, the fire district administrator for the Florence Township Fire Department, says crews from across South Jersey have assisted in the firefight.

No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Crews are expected to work through the night to get the flames under control.
