Over $500, cell phone stolen from elderly woman in Cash App scheme: BPD

    By Larry Statser,

BURKBURNETT ( KFDX/KJTL ) — An elderly Burkburnett woman was victimized when two men worked together to seize her cell phone and transfer money from her bank account to another account, according to police.

However, the two were stopped when the mobile payment service flagged the final transfer as suspicious.

Carter Thompson of Burkburnett has been charged with I.D. fraud of an elderly person.

The victim told police her cell phone had been stolen and that money was transferred from her account to another Cash App account.

The victim said she suspected another man had taken her phone and given it to Thompson, leading officers to track down and question him.

According to the officers, Thompson denied any involvement but later admitted he and another man got the victim’s phone, using an alias to begin transferring money from the victim’s account.

Subpoenas were obtained to check the Cash App accounts, and officers discovered five transfers totaling $510 and a sixth attempted transfer of $450 that was denied.
