Puddle of Mudd singer arrested after standoff with police: reports

(NEXSTAR) – Wes Scantlin, the singer of the rock group Puddle of Mudd, was arrested on Wednesday after a standoff with police and SWAT members in Burbank, California, an arrest log from the Burbank Police Department indicates.

Officers also pepper-sprayed Scantlin during the incident, according to multiple outlets.

A representative for the Burbank Police Department told TMZ that Scantlin, 52, was initially pulled over for a traffic violation in the early hours of Wednesday, July 31, but refused to leave his car. Officers then became aware of a previous warrant for Scantlin’s alleged possession of a weapon at an airport, police told the outlet.

Police attempted to use pepper spray to get Scantlin to leave the car but were unsuccessful, the Burbank Police Department told MassLive. The SWAT team was ultimately called in to remove Scantlin, who had “barricaded himself in the car,” the Burbank PD’s arrest log says. (Sources for TMZ said SWAT members used “non-lethal” pepper-spray projectiles to end the standoff.)

He was charged with resisting arrest and possession of a weapon in an airport, the police log indicates.

A public information officer for the Burbank Police Department was not immediately available to share additional details.

Scantlin, whose band rose to fame in the early 2000s with hits including “Blurry” and “She Hates Me,” has been arrested several times over the past decade, Billboard noted, including arrests for driving under the influence and vandalism in 2015 and 2016, respectively.

TMZ also reported in 2017 that Scantlin had attempted to board a flight from Los Angeles to Texas with a BB gun.
