Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - With the 2023 NHL Draft officially one week away and the Buffalo Sabres selecting 13th overall in Round 1 on Wednesday night, general manager Kevyn Adams and his staff are looking forward to who may fall to their slot in the draft order.

"I think the intrigue is always there throughout the draft," said Adams on Wednesday during his pre-draft press conference along with Director of Amateur Scouting, Jerry Forton.

While this group of prospects has widely been regarded for its depth at forward atop the class, Adams and Forton are looking to take the best player available at Pick 13.

"We're trying to find the best prospect, and asset for our organization for the future," said Forton on Wednesday. "Having said that Kevyn does a great job talking to us all the time about what the NHL looks like right now, who are the players having success on our big club."

Adams has come to know very well during his time as a front office executive that the NHL Draft is about selecting players with a focus on how they are going to look in the future, and not necessarily whether or not they are needed today.

"What everyone has to remember about the draft is, it's not as important to look at who and what they are today," Adams said. "It's who and what the player you believe will be down the road."
