Bills Stadium

The Buffalo Bills are in the process of building a new stadium, breaking ground on the new project this week. And amid a recent debate regarding the safety of artificial turf compared to natural grass, the Bills have made a pretty important decision to install a natural grass field in the stadium.

After the stadium’s groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Buffalo Bills General Manager Brandon Beane told Pat McAfee that the new stadium is going to be grass with a heating coil underneath to keep the field warm during the cold Buffalo winters.

“Another positive is it’s going to be grass,” Beane told Pat McAfee, according to Pro Football Talk. “We have these debates of turf vs. grass, so that was one of the big things we pushed for. It’s going to be grass like Lambeau has, have all that coil underneath to keep the field warm. So, very excited about that.”

While many modern stadiums are built with turf to make it easier for the stadiums to host multiple events like concerns and festivals, Beane made it clear that the stadium in Buffalo is being built specifically with football in mind.

“It’s really going to be built football-based,” he said.

This will be a big change for the Bills, who have always played on artificial turf since the stadium first opened 1973.
