Bills' Brandon Beane addresses possibly signing DeAndre Hopkins

The Buffalo Bills haven't yet slammed the door shut on signing former Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

"We are all about people who want to come to Buffalo," Bills general manager Brandon Beane said during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," as shared by Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "We love it, especially if they fit. Obviously, DeAndre’s a heck of a talent ... Nothing but respect for him." 

Before Arizona's release of Hopkins became official last week, ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted that the three-time First-Team All-Pro acknowledged during an appearance on the "I Am Athlete" podcast that Buffalo's Josh Allen was among five quarterbacks he'd like to catch passes from later this year. 

NFL reporter Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post wrote last week Hopkins potentially could "take a discount" to join the Bills, but Tim Graham of The Athletic later reported the veteran who turns 31 years old on Tuesday "wants a deal similar" to the one-year, $15M contract that includes up to $3M in incentives Odell Beckham Jr. received from the Baltimore Ravens in April. 

Graham also said that Beane recently "spoke with Hopkins directly" and that "the Bills simply don’t have enough salary-cap room to accommodate" Hopkins' contract desires. 

"It would definitely have to fit with how we would structure the salary and all that," Beane added about possibly acquiring Hopkins. "Never rule it out, but know he’s a good player and he’ll probably command a decent contract." 

The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys are among contenders that are reportedly out regarding any Hopkins sweepstakes, and Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Monday he is "pleased with our receiving group." Earlier on Monday, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk noted that Hopkins apparently "still wants more than the market will justify" at this stage of his free-agency journey.  

The five-time Pro Bowl selection may need to lower his asking price if he wishes to play alongside Allen this fall.
