How the Buffalo Sabres fared against the Ducks in 2022-23

I thought I would start something new. It’s time to start a new series, “How They Fared”. What I’m going to start doing is talk about how the Buffalo Sabres did against every team in the NHL this previous season. In this article, we’re going to talk about the season series against the Anaheim Ducks.

The Sabres swept the series against Anaheim and both games were pretty similar. Each contest was close at one point, but ended with Buffalo cruising to victory. Anaheim was having a rebuilding year and Buffalo was playing meaningful games to try and end the playoff drought.

Let’s go back to the first meeting which took place in Buffalo on a Saturday afternoon. The game before, Buffalo won an emotional game on Ryan Miller Night against the New York Islanders. Before this game, Miller dropped the ceremonial puck, which made perfect sense considering he played for both franchises.

Buffalo Sabres sink Ducks twice in the 2022-23 season

After having the 2-0 lead in the first period, Anaheim would tie the game up before Peyton Krebs gave the Sabres the lead again. It would not last long as the Ducks would even up the score once again going into the final frame.

Not to worry though, Buffalo would score the last three goals, two of those from Victor Olofsson, as they would cruise to a 6-3 victory. Just a few weeks later, the Sabres would be flying to the West Coast. Just like the first game, it started out the same way.

Thanks to Tyson Jost and Tage Thompson, the Sabres jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first 20 minutes. Unfortunately, the Ducks would score three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead. 35 seconds later though, Krebs would score once again to tie the game up.

After that, it was all Buffalo as they would win the game 7-3, sweeping the season series. It certainly was not easy but just like in so many games this season, the Sabres showed they can battle back and be resilient.
