At 15, Allen began volunteering on local campaigns.

As a Temple University student, he went to Harrisburg to press lawmakers for state funding for the university.

Away from the Capitol, he tutored math through a YMCA after-school program at John Welsh School in Kensington and worked as a substitute teacher at Mastery Charter Schools.

Seeing Schools From Both Sides

Now back in Bensalem, he sees the district from both sides of the classroom.

Some of the teachers whose concerns he hears as a director are people he once had as a student, and Allen said that experience helps him make informed decisions.

Campaign Priorities

On the campaign trail, Allen called for hiring more teachers and support staff to shrink class sizes, with staffing goals set school by school.

He opposed a proposed middle school for 1,600 students, arguing it would strain the budget and add staffing needs.

His “Triple M” plan centers on mental health, mentorship, and more professionals in schools.

Taking the District’s Case to Harrisburg

Since taking office, Allen has put his Harrisburg experience to work.

After he worked with the board’s president, the district created a legislative and government affairs liaison role so it could make its funding case directly to state lawmakers.

Allen holds the position. So far, he has met once with Bensalem’s state senator and representative, and he says that is only the start.

“I put out a framework where we will be meeting with legislators at least every couple months,” Allen said.

He also plans to invite lawmakers to board meetings so they can hear the district’s priorities firsthand.

For more on how Allen’s classroom experience and early trips to Harrisburg shape his work on the Bensalem board, read Ben Bennett’s full Bucks County Beacon profile.

___
