Fatal Crash Near Brownwood Leaves One Dead

BROWNWOOD— A fatal two vehicle crash occurred this morning between a passenger car and a truck tractor just outside of Brownwood.

According to The Texas Department of Public Safety, at around 4:00 a.m. this morning in Brown County  there was a crash between a 2014 Ford Fusion passenger car and a 2023 Freightliner truck towing a semi-trailer. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Ford Fusion was traveling south on Farm to Market Road 2126, about 1.6 miles east of Brownwood, and the Freightliner truck tractor was traveling north on Farm to Market Road 2126.

In a curve in the road, the Ford Fusion failed to operate in the southbound lane and crossed the center stripe, striking the Freightliner truck head on.

The driver of the Ford, 79-year-old Francis Thomas Montagna of Early, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Doug Hurt. The driver of the Freightliner truck was not injured in the crash.

The weather conditions were clear, and the road was dry at the time of the crash.
