Fire Causes Extensive Damage to Brownwood Apartment
The Brownwood Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 6:50 am May 26th at 2801 Southside Drive, Apartment 104. This is a six unit apartment building with only one unit being affected by fire. The occupant was not living there due to roof damage from a previous storm.
Brown County Sheriff’s Report: May 31
On Sunday, May 28, at approximately 9:15 a.m., Deputy Scotty Burke was dispatched to CR 267. This was in reference to the attempted theft of a motor vehicle. Contact was made with an individual who advised the feed truck for the ranch had been moved from the barn and was now stuck in the field. The individual also advised numerous hand tools had been taken from the barn storage room and were now in the bed of the truck. A possible suspect was named.

DIANE ADAMS: Remembering a Brown County hero
On May 26, 1874, former Texas Ranger and Brown County Deputy Sheriff Charles Webb was shot and killed by outlaw John Wesley Hardin outside a saloon in the town of Comanche. Born May 2, 1848, in Harrison County Kentucky, Webb was just 26 years old when he was killed in the line of duty. While I was reading about this event, I was struck by several things that just don’t seem right to me about this story.
