Lakeland’s Commissioner Sam Simmons will face Guy LaLonde at the polls Tuesday to see who wins the people’s vote for the next Northwest District commissioner. Simmons, 66, an entrepreneur and owner of a housing and financial consulting firm, was appointed to the commission in October 2022. Simmons took the remainder of former Commissioner Philip Walker’s term after Walker resigned in an unsuccessful bid for Florida House District 50.

If you are a lover of fried chicken and chicken sandwiches, the last year or so has probably been heaven for you around metro Phoenix. There have been countless chicken restaurants opening up around the area, some locally bred, but many flying in from outside the state. It’s a long way off from when it was difficult to track down chicken wings back during the pandemic. Now, a local chicken shop that opened just a year ago has already connected with the community and has opened a second location, spreading even more fried chicken goodness to hungry patrons.

Locally Owned Fried Chicken Restaurant Now Open

On December 4, 2023, at 1:04 a.m., officers responded to an active burglary at an East Edgewood apartment complex. A 31-year-old female victim reported that her 12-year-old daughter frantically came into her room and said a man broke her bedroom window and came inside. The victim did not know the suspect and began screaming at him to get out of the apartment. However, the situation further escalated as the suspect began choking the victim. The victim’s daughter fought to get the suspect off her mother during the struggle that resulted in the victim being bitten by the suspect.

After all, there is some level of trust between you and the restaurant. For the majority of greater Phoenix restaurants, that’s not an issue. However, one local fast-food restaurant nearly failed its most recent inspection, as it received a D grade just last week.

Good morning sweet beautiful people that have loved on us. Believe me when I tell you there is no easy way to say this. As of today we are permanently closed at our Lakeland location. When we opened late February this year we did it with love, hope and promise. We were wide eyed and hungry for the Lakeland crowd and excited to get to know each and every one of you. Life and god must have had other plans so here we are. The truth no matter what you might hear is that financially we just could not make it in this economy, it’s that simple.
