HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla – A deputy in Hernando County is being hailed a hero after resuscitating a woman who overdosed on Fentanyl.
On Monday, at approximately 7:20 p.m., the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office received a call for agency assistance regarding an unresponsive female inside a home on Moon Road in Brooksville.
Deputy M. Ortiz arrived on the scene and entered the residence. Once inside the home, the deputy found a female lying on a bathroom floor with two individuals, attempting to administer CPR.

One of the individuals performing CPR, a friend of the victim, said it may have been an accidental overdose of Fentanyl due to her known history of drug use.
Deputy Ortiz administered agency-issued Narcan due to the female being unconscious, not breathing, and not responsive to CPR, resulting in the woman regaining consciousness and beginning to breathe independently.
Hernando County Fire Rescue transported The female victim to Oak Hill Hospital for further treatment.
Deputy Ortiz contacted the victim at Oak Hill Hospital, where medical staff said the female victim was reported to be in stable condition and was expected to recover fully.
