What started first as an Instagram page to show off skateboarding skills has now turned into a resource to teach young girls in the Brooklyn community to learn how to skate.

Founder Liv Collins says Sk8Babes has helped her find a new sense of purpose, especially as someone who didn't find her skating community early on.

"I definitely feel like I'm fulfilling something in my childhood that I missed out on," said Collins. "Just being a marginalized gender in skateboarding, in the beginning of my journey I definitely felt lonely sometimes."

Collins is now turning her love for the sport into a learning experience for the youth. The company hosts clinics and camps for young skaters, teaching them new skills while giving them a close-knit community and some life lessons.

"I do it with a lot of my friends and Liv is a really good instructor she pushes me to try my best," said young skater Lucille. "I feel strong and I know when I'm taking a fall that I'm learning from my mistakes."
