NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The captain of the NYPD’s 69th Precinct in Brooklyn was arrested after police found him passed out drunk behind the wheel of an NYPD vehicle at a stop light in Manhattan early Friday morning.

Capt. Jared Badillo, 39, was discovered asleep behind the wheel of a police car at a light on East 14th Street in the East Village around 1:48 a.m., according to police and anonymous police sources cited by the New York Daily News.

Officers reportedly found a half-empty bottle of vodka in the back seat.

Badillo, who has been working for the force since 2006, blew a .182 Blood Alcohol Content, according to the Daily News’ anonymous sources. It is illegal to drive with a BAC above .08.

The NYPD told 1010 WINS Badillo was arrested for DWI, but refused to elaborate on the specifics of the arrest.

The Deputy Commissioner for Public Information, the branch of the NYPD tasked with sharing information with reporters, usually includes details about the events leading up to arrest in crime sheets distributed to the press.

In this instance, DCPI claimed not to have access to the arrest report that would include such details, stating the lack of access was “probably because it’s internal.”

Badillo, who was appointed as the commanding officer of the 69th precinct in April, made $178,000 last year.

The NYPD suspended Badillo without pay after the arrest.
