Teens shot near Brooklyn subway station were innocent bystanders: NYPD

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (PIX11) – Two teens, a boy and a girl, were shot inside a Brooklyn bodega before school Wednesday morning, according to police.

The shooting happened outside the Wise Deli and Grill, next to the entrance to the Franklin Avenue-Botanic Garden subway station. Police believe the 16-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy were innocent bystanders, according to investigators. They were among a group of teens grabbing a bite during the morning rush when gunfire erupted outside the store.

Standing among the broken glass inside his store, bodega worker Adnan Amhed told PIX11 News the suspects were standing just outside as he was ringing up items purchased by a large group of teens.

“Two of them got shot. The girl, she got shot in her leg,” he said.

Amhed said he helped both of the injured teens until first responders arrived.

As police swarmed the area searching for the suspects, neighborhood businesses locked down for a time. At the Dunkin’ Donuts across the street, Elle Stevenson locked the door.

“It was a bit scary; everyone is running, it sounded like firecrackers, and we did not know where it was coming from,” Stevenson said.

Witnesses said they saw police chasing two people, however, no arrests had been made, as of Wednesday afternoon. Police said they are looking for two teens in connection with the shooting.
