Man's skull broken, spleen ruptured after he's pulled into Brooklyn van, beaten with hammer

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A man was pulled into a van and beaten with a hammer in a brutal robbery in Brooklyn that left him in critical condition with a broken skull, police said Friday as they released images of two suspects.

The victim, 36, was attacked by four men at N. 7th Street and Kent Avenue in Williamsburg on the night of Feb. 18.

It all started when a second victim, 26, was robbed as he stood beside his van around 11:30 p.m. Four men brandished hammers and stole his cellphone and van keys, police said.

When the 36-year-old victim went to the van, the robbers pulled him inside the vehicle and struck him repeatedly in the head and body with hammers, according to police.

He was severely injured in the attack and rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he was listed in critical condition.

He suffered a fractured skull and a ruptured spleen, police said.

The 26-year-old victim was not injured. The relationship between the two victims is unclear.

Police released images of two of the four suspects Friday as they continue to search for the group.
