‘Not a stranger to crime’: Mississippi man racks up multiple charges — including drive-by shooting, burglary and jail escape
A 28-year-old Brookhaven man has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including drive-by shooting. Travis Antonio Brinson, of 1025 South Second St., was booked into the Lincoln County Jail Thursday morning under charges of drive-by shooting, simple assault domestic violence, burglary of an occupied dwelling, felony escape or attempt to escape, resisting or obstructing arrest, and an indictment.

Mississippi woman guilty of trying to steal houses
A Jayess woman has pleaded guilty to conspiring to steal houses from the United States Department of Agriculture. She is the third defendant to plead guilty in this case. According to court documents, 69-year-old Ella Martin conspired with others to identify and steal USDA-mortgaged properties. The targeted properties were mortgaged through the Brookhaven office of USDA Rural Development.
MHP responds to 3 fatal weekend crashes
JACKSON, Miss. — The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to three fatal wrecks in three separate counties over the course of two days. The first wreck was reported at about 8 a.m. Friday on Highway 569 in Amite County. Cpl. Craig James said a 2004 Chevy pickup truck traveling south ran off the road, collided with a tree and overturned, killing the driver, 21-year-old Anthony Oswalt, of Brookhaven.

Mississippi murder victim ID’d after 33 years of questions
More than 30 years after her body was discovered in the bushes at a rest stop in Lincoln County, officials say they have identified the female homicide victim. On May 10, a multi-state investigation and additional DNA testing of a close family member the woman was positively identified as Melinda Lou Barnhouse of Maryland. The investigation began in September 1989, when a woman’s body nude was found in the bushes at a rest stop near mile marker 26 along the southbound side of I55 in Lincoln County. She had been strangled to death.
