NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The parents of a 3-month-old Bronx girl who was found dead in a wooded area alongside the Major Deegan Expressway over the weekend have been charged, police said Monday.

Damion Comager, 23, and Ivana Paolozzi, 20, were arrested Monday night, with Comager facing murder, manslaughter and concealment of a human corpse charges.

Ivana Paolozzi, 20, was also charged with concealment of a human corpse along with obstructing governmental administration.

The body of Genevieve Comager was discovered around 8:25 p.m. Sunday on West 161st Street off the highway, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS workers.

According to the New York Post, Genevieve lived with her family at a nearby shelter on University Avenue classified as transitional housing.

Police were reportedly called to the shelter early Sunday after a concerned family member contacted the city's Administration for Children's Services.

Authorities found the infant's body while searching the area after she went missing from the shelter, the sources told the paper.

Her death has officially been ruled a homicide, police said. Her cause of death remains under investigation.

When reporters asked what happened as the duo walked out of the 44th Precinct stationhouse in handcuffs Monday night, Comager could be heard saying, "I love my daughter, I'm sorry."

When asked if he had shaken the baby, he said, "It was a mistake."

The ACS reacted in a statement about Genevieve's death, saying their "top priority is protecting the safety and well-being of all children in New York City."

"As soon as this family came to our attention after this tragic matter arose, we launched an immediate investigation with the NYPD," they added.
